  1. Not many laptops with firewire built in these days, especially around that budget. Desktop looks reasonable for price, however you'll need to add a firewire card into that, although they are cheap - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?mai ... s_id=24103 I'd also spend the extra to upgrade the power supply to a thermaltake one above a no-brand one, bump the ram to 8GB
  2. That looks pretty dope. Don't use ableton or ipad though
  3. fixed
  4. Good luck
  5. He means flume style. Not traditional DJing so to speak
  6. I would avoid taking laptop and just use USB sticks. You'll most likely be on CDJ 2000s + DJM 800
  7. The things that will make you stand out: -Song selection (songs that mix well + playing to time slot & the crowd) -Technical mixing skills (you have this already) -Crowd response (i.e. bringing friends) We can help with the first one mostly. Being a DJ comp, song selection will be a combination of following on from the last DJ correctly, while still being aware of your time slot (e.g. If it's 9pm and the person before you is playing bangers, I probably wouldn't continue doing that). Equip yourself with a mixture of music, from deep house -> tech house -> house -> electro, so that you're prepared for any situation that may arise. I wouldn't bother "pre-planning" a mix - the judges will likely be able to tell. Learn these tracks before you go. Then when you will be properly equipped Key points: -Have fun -Bring lots of friends -Meet with the promoter / event organiser before & after the event to get yourself known
  8. Moved to buy and sell - gear (from HQ)

The only thing i can say is
  10. To be honest I think the big room/'melbourne sound' that is being played everywhere atm is fairly horrible, but the transitions were tight. Good luck with the comp.
  11. Removed all your duplicate threads + fixed soundcloud tags. When posting mixes, please only create ONE thread and put it in the relevant music section (like this one was). Also take note of how i've done the soundcloud tags. If you are still confused on how to do the tags, look here: viewtopic.php?f=54&t=12659 Thanks

  19. 900 seems reasonable. I'd want any purchase to come with receipts + still be in warranty though, so make sure you check those things out first. Before you go and buy an SSD, find out how much it is going to be to have the drive installed. I would do it if I didn't live so far away. Keep in mind, being an apple product there is a bit more involved in putting a 2nd hard drive in, so labour costs will be a factor if you're planning to put an SSD in. A lot of Mac places will charge around $150/hr. Note that Genius bar won't do the upgrade unless you buy the SSD from them, and they won't put the old hdd in the optical drive slot due to it not being an officially supported configuration. You'll also need a bracket so the 2.5" hdd fits in the optical drive slot. You'll be looking at 300 for SSD, 90 for the bracket/adapter, + labour costs. So it could all end up around 900+300+90+150 = 1440 (for a second hand laptop) How much were you looking at spending again?
  20. Valid point.
  21. When I started reading this I had my tech mind on and went "vdj home is already sandboxed on os x". Then I read the whole article. Seems like another feature skilled DJs would never use IMO.
  22. New ADJF HQ machine: http://www.apple.com/au/macbook-pro/features-retina/ 15" model with upgraded cpu & RAM
