How do different DJ's/Producers stand out?
Gandy replied to MintyCondition's topic in DJ Headquarters
have to agree with russell, the artists that you have mentioned would still be the same without there accessories daft punk would still be legends deadmau5 would still be popular when it was his time in the lime light (as much as some people hate to admit he did actually produce some bangers even though not everyone agress with his personality) and one act you failed to mentio are djs from mars who would still be international success without the box heads it comes down to the music, if you are consistently producing bangers you're gonna have a good time no matter what you wear good music is good music -
So sad to hear, was a big part of my clubbing days

Music piracy down as labels show first revenue growth since
Gandy replied to Mitch's topic in DJ Headquarters
you would be kidding yourself if you didnt think pandora and spotify havnt played a role in reducing piracy. Its now so much easier to load up a pandora/spotify playlist which not only streams all your music for free (or a small fee to cut out the ads), but automatically matches similar artists which allows you to listen to your favourite tunes and discover new artists in an easier way than pirating (which is good thing) as tomy has stated though, streaming has very little to do with tracks to play out, so unfortunately the scumbag djs who pirate all their their tracks for their set list are still gonna be scumbag pirates -
oldie but a goodie, this will never die in my heart

honestly it was for me, i bought 350s and instantly regretted it (after being used to playing on 900s), this was when the top of the line was 900s though, and there wasnt much room inbetween budget wise. 350s felt very toy/plasticy now you have 3 major options for big platter (850, 900, 2000) instead of just 900, and 850s are very much worth it for the price if youre going to get 350s you may as well just pick up a controller these days, same size platter as 350 but with a shit load of extras for the same price

im in the same boat as mitch, i dont like facebook logins. Usually when you have to sign up to a site you only have to give limited info which you can spoof anyway, only important thing is to remember your login and password with facebook login they they can mine all your real info, unless you setup another fake facebook account to use for those sites

It controls the software (traktor, serato etc.) you are using. ie: play, cue, loop, etc etc... Ahk , If you have a DJ controller , is the Midi controller something on the side? as mitch said midi controller = dj controller 99% of the time MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a technical standard that describes a protocol, digital interface and connectors and allows a wide variety of electronic musical instruments, computers and other related devices to connect and communicate with one another. MIDI carries event messages that specify notation, pitch and velocity, control signals for parameters such as volume, vibrato, audio panning and cues, and clock signals that set and synchronize tempo between multiple devices So a MIDI controller (which is a dj controller 99% of the time eg. Native Intruments Traktor Kontrol S4, Pioneer DDJ-SX etc) connects to your laptop/pc and controls all the desired functions of the djing/music through software (eg traktor/serato/rekordbox). you can use cdjs/mixer without a laptop because they are the actual physical hardware that manipulates all the pitch/volume/cue points as opposed to a controller which can only manipulate those things by going through software on a laptop. thats why you will hear ppl who have contollers "laptop djs" (sometimes in a derogatory manner) because without the laptop/software controllers are nothing but expensive drink holders/door stops i rambled on there for a bit and hopefully didnt confuse you too much

What is the most popular genre for the club scene
Gandy replied to CapFive's topic in DJ Headquarters
i voted other as well, without knowing what crowd you are expecting commercial club is probably the safest then you might wanna drop into some heavier commercial electro bangers/booties later into the night when everyone is starting to buzz(say from 1am onwards), going to be up to the dj ultimately though what he should be dropping and when to keep the floor, no matter how hard you plan for a night you might get a totally different crowd to what you are expecting, and if the DJ dosent know how to adapt to it you're gonna have a bad time -
