  1. Like?
  2. Can the surface pro do exe's? Been thinking of buying a convertible laptop to use mostly for media streaming and internet's. But also want one capable of running Traktor (and S4).
  3. Doing my Engineering Design unit at uni we discussed Apples R&D attitude. I can't remember the specific figures now but they spend far and away more of their money on R&D than any other company. Something like 20% of their budget goes into it. The nearest competitor is around 5% (excluding exclusive R&D companies). They create something like 100 prototypes to each individual product that eventually goes to market.
  4. Rise of the hipster culture at the same time vinyl sales go up. Coincidence?
  5. Still on the fence with W8. Metro is cumbersome, ugly and far from intuitive. And I am using it on a touch screen PC. Then you have desktop mode which for the most part is the same, easy to use PC environment. The few things I don't like should be addressed with 8.1 hopefully.
  6. Start button is back...
  7. Hey hey
  8. I only ever listened to the radio when someone was playing live. Even then that was fairly rare.
  9. What does she want you to play?
  10. Still read it as "Em-pee-ah" even though I know what it really is.
  11. Quite simply, no. Extremely small market and small profit margin equals lots of work for little money.
  12. And pretty sure I can see a light on the sync buttons too
  13. I was considering a pro as well (before this thread). But for my needs I will won't a full laptop. Decided on a convertible style, just waiting for some newer one before I grab one. I just bought a all in one desktop for my daughter and it is quite cool using W8 with a touch screen.
  14. Hey
  15. Can't comment on the specifics of those mentioned. But in a previous life I was enrolled in a bachelor of arts (music production major) at Southern Cross Uni at Lismore. Whilst I failed miserably and pulled out pretty quickly (mostly due to first time living out of home and too much weed.) But I have 2 points to contribute: 1. A full degree will involve studying many subjects that have little to do with the production side of things. There will be quite a great deal of units like music history which may not be of interest. 2. There are very, very, very few jobs going in that industry. You had want to be exceptuonally good and have developed some contacts by the time you finish to get a job. Saying all that, if I was wanting to go down that path again I would try the specialised schools (you mentioned). I'm only aware of SAE which seemed fairly highly regarded by the lecturers I had.
  16. Gotta say thanks for Cupe for this competition. Personally it is these type of things I learn the most from cause I am pushed out of my comfort zone. In this case it was the use of accapellas. I may have failed but was good having a go. But even better is the ability to see how others have used the exact same material. I look forward to more of these. For me prizes are not the incentive for participation. Hope it was also seen as a success? Surely it generated a bit more traffic to social media and the forum? Plus gained one new member (that I'm aware of) directly cause of this competition.
  17. To me these few songs sound like perfect tunes for an album. With one or two commercial/banger type of tunes, possibly with collaboration with some kind of well known vocalist would make a real nice album. Chimes and night jungle are my favourites. But I really do think if handled correctly you could be on the cusp of something big here.
  18. He's gotta stop talking for all DJ's. Whilst for him this may be true as first and foremost he is a producer. And there are others at the pointy end are the same. But the vast majority of DJ's in the trenches are a completely different story.
  19. Welcome
  20. Haven't got to point 3 yet. This is the biggest pile of shit. This reeks of, "I sucked and it was everyone else's fault because I'm a hipster more interested in the craft than actually creating the art."
  21. Interesting mix by Smashbeat, Would love to know if it was done via Ableton or CDJ/Controller? If the later than was technically excellent. Although on a personal note I don't like this type of mix. Great if you are on a daily dose of Ritalin, but to me it has no progression. And to me the journey is more important than the technical aspects. I really liked the next 2. Code of Silence mix was great, even though it skipped a song (well it was there for about 3 seconds). I also thought SnatchMD's use of the accapellas as the most creative.
  22. Thanks for my one pity vote whoever gave that to me... :-)
  23. I really like my M-Audio BX8's so no doubt these would sound great too. Love the timber stain. Classy.
  24. I'll just say this.... Sync debate
