  1. You do your mixes harmonically gandy? yes I try but find im too limited in the set progression. You realise you can also go -/+ 2 or -/+ 7? ie 4A, 4A, 6A, 7A, 7A, 8A, 9A, 2A
  2. There is no "groovy" in hard styles. More "oh my god I am so high so I am going to point to the lasers," syth breakdowns. Some extra inspiration. This half hour set got the Crundy seal of approval. Set list can be found on Soundcloud. http://soundcloud.com/dj-drc1/memories-of-advent-jah
  3. Was a combo of things happening about the same time for me.... Come from the Rock/blues background. Studied music at school right through to grade 12. At around this age, in 1995 I was very much an avid user of my Amiga computer. One of the big things from this period was called the Demo Scene where programmers would try and out-do each other with technically challenging music and videos. These demos used a 4 track "mod" for their music as used very little space and videos completely made up of code. One demo I can remember that was the first purely "EDM" style is this "State of the Art" demo from 1992. This is all code, not video. Playing live on a 14.4Mhz CPU with 1mb ram off a single 880kb floppy disc. So with my music studies I started getting into writing music with mod software. As it is a sample and pattern based production platform it lends itself to dance music Not long after this I got my license and started driving my own car. One of the first things I did was install an Alpine stereo with CD player, splits and some sik by nines in the back. And I discovered how cool EDM sounds on loud systems. So started my collection of EDM CD's about then. Prodigy, Crystal Method, Chemical Bros, Ultra Sonic plus so much more I can't think of right now got a lot of airplay in my car. Then as I grew into my 20's I started getting interested in the clubbing scene. I was reading Mixmag religiously (pre-internet days). Early MoS albums... In particular the Clubber's Guide to Ibiza Summer 99 mixed by Judge Jules and Clubbers Guide to Trance (mixed by ATB) were exceptionally good. My friends were not really into EDM but put up with me listening to these CD's. They were kind of an anthem to our summer in about 2000. Drinking by the pool, having fun while these CD's played are clear memories to me. Also very much got into the Gatecrasher albums and was mesmerized by the images of the "rave kids" and hypnotised by the trance music. Unfortunately by this stage I was living in Gladstone. And the EDM scene was particularly non-existent. DJ's at the club were just queuing up NightLife videos. Did manage to make it to a few System 6 Raves in Brisbane. But not long after hooked up with my future (ex)wife and settled down.
  4. Got the effects selected in Traktor? Can you give us a screen shot?
  5. Sorry, can't help with specifics. But one of the very few I got out of my failed music production degree was that there are different mics for different purposes. They have different sensitivities and they have differing ideal distances from what they are recording. Some work better than other for vocals. Some are better at picking up instrument sounds. Definitely worth going into a proper shop and discussing your needs. From memory Sennheiser made a fairly good all purpose microphone.
  6. Just putting it out there wondering if we got enough inexperienced new members for a Noob mix comp yet? I know we got new members, but quite a lot seem to be experienced/working DJ's. But there certainly are a few who are less experienced and just getting into DJing. I know personally, last year's comp provided invaluable assistance with learning what the hell I was doing. The feedback from the judges helped me considerably. Last year's thread and Submissions. So feedback from people about whether we have any interest? Anyone interested put your hand up here so we can see....
  7. Yo Need to head over to the Pics of your Beast thread.
  8. I don't think they will split it. Many people will only be able to go one day. And it would be really annoying not having the variety on offer at one time.

  10. Does the venue's regular form of business involve having 100's of drunk whales in its premises at all hours of the night? If not, then their existing insurance will not cover this.
  11. Music isn't really big enough to get much more benefit from fatter pipes. You can already stream 320kb mp3 now so faster net isn't going to make much of a difference. What's surprising is the coalitions policy considering Malcolm Turnbull's in charge of this and his previous history.
  12. I use Display Fusion. It allows me to set different backdrops for each screen and still rotates them as per normal Win7 feature. I have two monitors (27" & 22") but my secondary one is actually turned sideways so it is in portrait (really cool for long things like reading A4 PDF's, Facebook, Blogs, viewing portrait pics). So I have 2 folders of backdrops with just random cool pics I have come across. One folder is 1920x1080 landscape pics (545 backdrops in there )the other 1080x1920 portrait (143). Display Fusion also stretches my screensaver over both monitors (plus other options). So when I take a screen shot, by backgrounds look like these couple examples... And...
  13. Haha... Noob
  14. Thanks... I fucking want one of them now. Can be added to the list of shit I don't got the money for.
  15. Excellent. No excuses now. Mix all the things!
  16. Headphones turned up? There will be a volume control somewhere for them. Just checking the basics first.
  17. Has it worked previously or is this the first time using it?
  18. My opinion... It's cluttered and the ADJF (which is the important bit innit) is completely lost.
  19. hey
  20. Generally no. Cause its mostly just inane bullshit. But I have seen once where the MC got Bombs Away out of the shit when they lost power to their decks. While the tech guys got power up and running again the MC beat boxed (not very good, but good enough) while the boys did the vocals to one of their songs. Made a hilight out of a failure.
  21. Feel free to snag this one. Soundcloud download is 320 and tracklist is on soundcloud. http://soundcloud.com/dj-drc1/march-electro-mix-1
  22. I read somewhere a comparison of the major key detectors and it was as accurate as the others. I notice it gives different labels to mixed in key. My latest March Mix exclusively used Traktor's key detection and I had quite long transitions which would be very obvious if keys are out, but it sounds fine to me. Edit: whoops. Thought this was about Traktor's new key detection. My bad.
  23. Good idea. Will sort out some tags later.
  24. I'm thinking the sale of these have funded Gandy's move back home.
  25. That's in my playlist I have set up...
