The larger ones are probably a Par 64 and the smaller one a Par 38 (numbers refer to the diameter). In conventional par cans the larger the number the larger the lamp that can be used. With LEDs its a different ball game and you'll need to look at the specs to work out which one is brighter. Otherwise found this on the Tube... I suspect that the long nose ones have a tighter wash area and are better for lighting a specific area as opposed to a general wash effect.

The tablet is basically a laptop. You plug the DMX dongle into the lappy via USB. The dongle then outputs the DMX signal via a 3 pin XLR cord. I do lighting design so I like a lot of flexibility. As G says, if your lookig to only do small parties then its better to buy some lights (fixtures) with built in microphones that have a good sound to light ability (ie detect the beat and move accordingly). Some of the best features of Freestyler are: It comes with a free vizualizer so you can create a virtual venue and watch how your lights act without ever having to set them up (see vid below) It has a timer so you can accurately adjust when you want your smoke machine to put out smoke (if it has DMX capability) It has a fairly sophisticated beat detection facility (via the mic in your lappy) You can control your lights via a touchscreen, keyboarrd shortcuts, a midi device or just mouse

I run Freestyler DMX software (free off the net) with a Velleman USB to DMX dongle and love it. I just recently bought a second hand tablet with touch screen so you can set it up to so the screens has 'buttons'. Basically means anyone can use it. This is the last social I did at work using this rig:

http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/dianella ... 1006390582 Interesting...wonder what it entails? The Nightcruiser Crew is seeking a home Dj hobbiest to engineer our monthly music library. Production assistance given. This will be very rewarding

Research HID mode for the 850. It will allow you to use it as a control surface for Traktor or VDJ. Unfortunately 1000s don't have the same feature.
-
An interface of some kind that uses a PS3 controller as the control surface. Plenty of buttons and toggle sticks for controlling Tracktor/VDJ. I'm sure I read somewhere about using a PS3 pad to send midi signals.

Tilt switch that triggers effects. Big fat stomp pads for drunk fingers. Wireless USB connection. That kind of thing?
-
Too complicated for the average punter. Just add an extra surcharge for anything over a certain distance.

The image doesnt show it clearly but my friend who designed the light show set up on the highest part of the stage. He must have taken a break and come back to find the VDj had set up three massive LCD screens in front of him. I rocked up and it was too late to change everything. Kind of ironic given the shirt I was wearing...Lol!

Me on the far right with my "dont know what I'm doing shirt". Had some good laughs on the night. Will get some better images when the black version arrives.

Pretty much say that for all Behringer gear. You get what you pay for and it does the job.

Have a look on this forum for a wedding thread. Can't lay my hands on it now but it has heaps of tips and advice. I'll see if I can find it later for you.

New Wireless DJ system from Pioneer - XDJ-Aero
SourceRaver replied to Scottie's topic in DJ Headquarters
Friend of mine was telling me about the American DJ Versadeck. It's a standalone media player with inbuilt processor and sound card. You can connect CDJs or TTs and use it as a mixer and it's also a midi controller for manipulating software like VDJ or Traktor. All it needs is wireless capability and would have everything. -
Many Perthlings on ADJF (not so much the bush kind)

Great way to keep people away from the DJ desk...

G'day

A friend was telling me it uses spray cans of air freshener!?

Ok…what the heck is ‘pitch resolution’ and how does it affect my beat matching? When you move the pitch slider on an older Technics turntable, the pitch is infinitely variable. That’s means tiny movements of the pitch slider result in tiny changes to the speed of the platter and vice versa. It’s a proportional relationship where when one variable changes, the other changes accordingly. It doesn’t happen this way with CDjs or controllers. Because of their digital nature, the pitch can only be changed in set increments. The size of the increments is the pitch resolution (think of it like the steps of a staircase). The higher the pitch resolution, the bigger the increments. What this means is that when you mix two tunes together with slightly different BPMs, you may never get them to match exactly as your media player will only ever play them at a set speed. The result is that nicely overlapping beats will always drift apart. A lower resolution is better as it has more increments and you are more likely to get the bpm’s to match. Your mixes can be longer in duration before the beats to drift. Below are some figures for some Pioneer CDjs: CDJ800 +/- 10% with a resolution of 0.05% +/- 100% with a resolution of 0.5% CDJ2000 +/- 6% with a resolution of 0.02% +/- 10% with a resolution of 0.05% +/- 16% with a resolution of 0.05% +/- 100% with a resolution of 0.5% It’s definitely something worth thinking about before you buy your next CDJ or controller/software.

Nice tidy set up.

Totally recommend this book. Years before Ellaskins started making you-tube tutorials, the author of this book was teaching beginner djs via his website at www.recess.co.uk. This guy helped me a lot when I first started out.

Try connecting it too another PC with VDJ installed. If it still doesn't work then it's probably the controller itself. Might be something like a dry solder joint. I've heard about folks opening up their devices and heating the circuit boards with a hair dryer to fix this problem.
