practice with a track that has a definitive four four kick. have your incoming track be faster so you know which way you are pitching (i.e. down). ensure your monitor is directly in front, to the side, or behind you. and at least at waist level. you wont need this as you improve but just to get use to it i found this the best. use the headphone on one ear method.
